Civil Unrest – Preparing in Advance for the Chaos

Those of us who have been watching the news recognize that the world is changing quickly. One of the ways in which that changes seen is in civil unrest. It wasn’t all that long ago that it seemed to be an issue that took place in a distant country but today, it is happening all over the world and it is increasing.

Although we certainly would hope that civil unrest never comes to our area, it is becoming more and more possibility that it will occur. Up until this time, they have been able to contain the issues to a localized area but it wouldn’t take much to tip the scales and before you know it, it could be coming to a small town near you.

Just as you would want to prepare for any type of natural disaster, you would also want to be prepared in the event of civil unrest. Quite honestly, being prepared for such a problem can make a difference in your surviving the problem or perhaps just being a statistic of it. What are some of the things that you can do to prepare for a problem with civil unrest?

Stock up on Supplies – One of the most important parts of preparing for any type of issue is to stock up on supplies. Some people follow the general recommendation of having a three-day supply of food and water available for every member of the household. In some cases, however, civil unrest could last for an extended amount of time so it is important to prepare for that possibility. Put together a survival pantry that would keep your family fed for weeks or even better, for months.

Cash Out – it is always a good idea to have some cash on hand at your home but you need to prepare properly for civil unrest. Although it certainly is possible to have thousands of dollars stockpiled in hundred dollar bills, that could really be a problem when the SHTF. Keep money in smaller denominations, such as $20 bills and $10 bills. If it comes down to buying a bottle of water on the street, it is unlikely that they will make change.

Prepare for the Grid to go down – In the event of wide scale civil unrest, it may be possible for the power to go out for an extended amount of time. Repair trucks may not be able to get to the area to fix the issue. Be sure that you are prepared with anything you might need to get by during that time. This will include a radio with extra batteries, a fully charged cell phone and a full gas tank.

Civil unrest can strike without any warning. Make sure that you aren’t caught unawares in the event that it should happen. Take the time to prepare now and remain prepared for the duration. It could mean your survival in the event of such a problem.
